Structural Engineering Manager, Industrial

Structural Engineering Manager, Industrial

Columbia, MD

April 2016

THE SCENARIO

The largest concrete repair specialty contractor in the United States needed to re-fill the senior level department manager for their industrial-focused in-house design team.

We were asked to assist with uncovering a tenured structural engineer to lead the team of engineers (~10 with Master’s and PhD’s) who focus on industrial infrastructure repair services at sites such as food and beverage, fossil and nuclear power generation, OG&C, and any other harsh environment that leads to corrosion and degradation to critical production areas.

THE CHALLENGE

The client expected this person to be educated and technically competent beyond most engineers in a similar position of responsibility. The candidate also needed to have at least ten years of success managing teams.

THE SOLUTION

Our recruiters immediately took the story of the opportunity to the entire Baltimore and Washington, D.C. region. Nearly every practicing structural engineer in a fifty-mile radius were contacted within the first three-weeks of the search.

THE OUTCOME

The first candidate submitted was a perfect fit. They had experience working with engineering leaders such as Bechtel and was currently with a similar sized engineering services organization. Most of their career had been developing solutions for design needs at petrochemical and power plants.

New employment resulted in the candidate saving forty-minutes each way on their weekday commute.
